We are really leaving home...glad to say we are on our way to....today: Oswego

Were we leaving? 01:00 PM, Gord brought the Radar Post. John and Ed in rush to put it up. 02:30, with Peter (thanks for the addition to the wine cellar), Mike, Penny said good bye, we were off the dock..first to do pump out and get fuel.

Believe it or not, Thursday, September 30, around 03:30 PM,  Mike and Penny and Gord said good bye to us..we were really leaving, finally!

No wind, no wave to start the journey from Ridge Town..set the course to Oswego. We arranged Ed in charge for the first 3 hours trip, Nora the second and John the third, repeat it again until Oswego. The whole trip is about 20 hours, 144 m. We were motoring 6 to 7 kn.

The spectacular sunset was following our departure...the skyline was awesome!

06:30 PM: We had dinner, hah..first dinner on the water: rice, chicken and salad, yummy!
11:00: the wind came up to about 15-20 kn, we started motor sailing.
Friday, October 01, 04:00 AM we arrived at the first way point, off Presquille. The wave started to build. The fun of this journey started. Everybody was up, the wind and the wave became nasty. The wind was 25-30 kn and the wave 2-3 meter.

We thanked to the boat, moving strongly and optimisticly forward. We heard a lot of stuffs dancing on the floor below in the salon and galley. Not impressed with the accuracy of the weather forecast. Everybody all the time with gear, PFD's with harnesses are a must. Very intense and exciting 19 hours trip. Closer to Oswego both wind and wave were getting crazier. Finally we saw the light house and with Ed on the wheel successfully negotiated the breakwaters and entered Oswego harbour at 10:30 AM.

A bit chalenge on docking..but hey we survived! Thanks to God! After all we were on the show, sailing south! The captain reported to Immigration through video phone, everything were OK.

See you in the next chapter!

  2. Nora & John,
Keep us, and I'm sure, many others, up to date with your ship's log entries. It is fascinating for us "landloubbers" to read about the challenges and joys of your trip so far. We really want to hear your observations when you pass through the NY city harbour, pass the statue of Liberty & make your way out in to the Atlantic ocean. Beyond that tell us about the Annapolis Int boat show. And, because you will be like huckleberry finn going down a great American waterway, explain to us how it feels to travel through the American south on your way to Florida.
God speed on your great adventure
